How the numbering works
The number is built from a prefix, optional year and month, and a padded counter: prefix-2026-09-001. Padding sets the minimum digits — padding 4 turns 1 into 0001.
This tool suggests the next numbers for your own records. It cannot guarantee globally unique numbers, and it does not check other systems, because nothing leaves your browser. If two people must not use the same number, assign one sequence per person or project.

Pick one format and keep it. Sequential numbering makes it easy to spot a missing or duplicated invoice later, and most invoice numbering schemes in small businesses are simple counters with a year or client prefix.
